Yankees Announcers Couldn't Believe Victor Robles Tried to Steal Home

‘Robles Made a Mistake. It’s Not a Big Deal’

On Saturday, Washington Nationals outfielder Victor Robles attempted to steal home against the New York Yankees in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out and the bases loaded. The Yankees announcers were stunned by Robles' attempt, as he was thrown out at the plate. "What is Victor Robles doing?" one announcer asked. "He's got no chance."

The announcers' surprise was understandable, as Robles is not known for his speed. He has just 23 career stolen bases and was caught stealing seven times in 2021. However, Robles said after the game that he thought he had a chance to steal home because the Yankees' catcher, Jose Trevino, was playing deep.

‘It Was a Bonehead Play’

Robles’ manager, Dave Martinez, was not as understanding as the Yankees announcers. He called Robles' attempt to steal home a "bonehead play." "It was a mistake," Martinez said. "He's got to be smarter than that."

Despite the criticism, Robles' teammates defended him. "He's a young player," said shortstop Trea Turner. "He's going to make mistakes. We're all behind him."

‘He’s Still Learning’

Robles is still learning the game. He is only 25 years old and has just three full seasons in the majors. He has the potential to be a good player, but he needs to improve his decision-making.

Robles' attempt to steal home was a reminder that he is still learning. He made a mistake, but he will learn from it. He is a talented player with a bright future.
