Antrim and Newtownabbey Council Announce Bid to Host Armed Forces Day 2024

Council to Submit Formal Bid to Ministry of Defence

Event to Include Drumhead Service and Family Activities

Newtownabbey, 29 June 2023 - Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has announced its intention to submit a bid to host Armed Forces Day 2024 in the borough.

If successful, the event would take place on Saturday, 22 June 2024, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at a venue to be confirmed.

Armed Forces Day is a national event that celebrates the contribution of the men and women who serve in the Armed Forces. The event typically includes a Drumhead Service, parades, live music, and family-friendly activities.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Billy Webb, said: "We are extremely proud to announce our intention to bid to host Armed Forces Day 2024. This would be a fantastic opportunity to show our support for our Armed Forces and to celebrate their contribution to our country.

"We are confident that we have a strong bid to submit, and we are hopeful that we will be successful in bringing this prestigious event to our borough."

The deadline for bids is 4th August 2023. The Ministry of Defence will announce the successful bid in September 2023.
